我想要一杯茶。
I would like a cup of tea.
Day 3 of 57 · Week 1 · Mandarin operating system
Ask for repetition, slower speech and writing. Recover from a reply you cannot understand three times in a row.
Your first survival skill is keeping a conversation going when the reply is unfamiliar.
A repair phrase buys you another attempt. 慢 means slow; 再 means again. Learn the whole request, then notice which piece changes the job.
When you do not understand — complete guided explanation
Completion records effort; quiz results measure recognition. Neither proves conversational fluency. Use the interactive trainer for review scheduling and saved progress.
我要 ___ is a direct request. 我想要 ___ softens it: I would like ___. Add 请 when useful.
